I don't think it matters much about the brand as long as it's a good grade oil, it's the correct weight for the conditions and contains the proper additives. Afraid you'll never get the same answer twice on a motor oil question, so pick a reputable brand that meets the manufacturer's specs outlined in the manual and go with it. I use this Castrol Power-1 because it exceeds all requirements and is rated for wet clutches. It's been perfect so far. Just make sure your engine is well broke in before switching to it..or any synthetic oil and if you go to a synthetic, make sure it is OK for use with wet clutches. The whole subject of oil evaporation is greatly exaggerated, especially for synthetic motor oils. Some amateurs attempt to judge motor oils by measuring oil evaporation, after heating the oil to twice the normal engine temperature, and then measure a very small amount of loss, which is nothing but theatrics and a joke. Even after a month in storage the oil is still lightly present where I put it. Light, but still there. The question I'm going to ask will open a large can of worms. This oil is $6.75 at amazon.com for a 4 OZ can when a whole quart of fully synthetic motor oil is about the same price. My Ranger 4.0 SOC has 110,000 miles on it. And, let us not forget about the importance of manually checking the oil level on a regular basis, as well as changing the oil at least as often as the car mfr specifies. Oil is uesless, you can't fill it in afaik (never worked for me and we fixed about 8 cars after 1.04). @Neutral Buoyancy. You probably don't know how to drive your car correctly, we never used motor oil and we drove around the whole map with one car (until LAGFREEZE destroyed it again) I have used synthetic oil since 1990 and never had an engine fail or use oil and I keep cars to over 200,000 miles. I have used Valvoline Synthetic the past 10 years. Mobil 1 is very good also. Oil and filter changed every 5000 miles. I prefer the valvoline because it has a small amount of zinc in it which may reduce wear at startup. The whole subject of oil evaporation is greatly exaggerated, especially for synthetic motor oils. I haven't changed the oil in an S-Class, but from what others have said, it's very easy, and with a MityVac takes at most 20 minutes. The dyno cell is even more impressive. Each engine is placed on a stand that slides into its own dyno room. The engines are fed preheated oil and coolant to bring them up to operating temperature. The dyno spins the engine over to start it-there's no need to use the starter motor. Each engine is run on diesel to ensure its full-rated power output.
